Encompassing 18 photographs taken from his personal Leica M3 and Leica Monochrom cameras Ben Folds: Noted showcases the people, architecture and fleeting moments captured by Ben Folds during his travels performing and touring around the world.
Throughout his career as a singer-songwriter, Folds has created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and collaborative records with artists from Sara Bareilles and Regina Spektor, to William Shatner. His most recent album is a blend of pop and classical original works that soared to #1 on both the American Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.
An avid photographer also, Folds earlier this year completed an assignment as a photo editor for National Geographic. Talking about his long-time passion for photography and use of Leica cameras, Ben Folds said:
“I made the transition from part time photographer to obsessive freak when my kids were born in 1999 and I wanted artful archival prints that would last generations, that would speak of their childhood more eloquently than digital folders full of snapshots. Since then my interest in photographs has expanded to equal that of music and I find one art form always informs and inspires the other,” said Ben.
“I generally photograph quiet moments at a distance. Maybe they're not just quiet, but silent. I tend to photograph things on the upbeat rather than the downbeat. In that way, it's possible that my music captures notes and my photographs capture the rests.”
At a complimentary artist reception and talk at Leica Store Sydney guests enjoyed the opening night of the ‘Ben Folds: Noted' on Monday 29 2018.
